Louisville got 92 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns from Bilal Powell and used a big second quarter to cruise past Eastern Kentucky 23-13 on Saturday.

Adam Froman completed 15-of-23 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown and the Cardinals defense yielded just six points, as Louisville's new head coach, Charlie Strong, got his first win.

After gaining a total of 14 yards in their first two possessions, the Cardinals broke out in the second quarter. Powell accounted for the first score, punching it in from 2 yards out to put Louisville on top. The defense got into the act next, forcing a safety to push it to 9-0.

The Cardinals opened up the passing attack for the next score when Froman hit Doug Beaumont down the middle for a 42-yard touchdown strike. Another punt by Eastern Kentucky set Louisville up at midfield with two minutes left until the half, and Powell ran for 33 yards on the drive, including the 3-yard score just before the half to make it 23-0.

The Colonels finally got on the board in the third when Jeremy Caldwell returned an interception 80 yards, and they added a late touchdown on the offense’s best drive of the day -- a 10-play, 80-yard effort capped by Brendon Gregory’s 1-yard touchdown pass.
