The Skip Holtz era at South Florida officially began Saturday night in Tampa as the Bulls rolled over Stony Brook, 59-14.

Holtz, only the second coach in USF history, took over for Jim Leavitt last winter.

The Bulls were led by sophomore quarterback B.J. Daniels, who completed 15 of 22 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

South Florida scored on its first play from scrimmage when Daniels hit Dontavia Bogan for a 59-yard touchdown pass. Stony Brook then scored on back-to-back possessions, both the result of USF miscues.

The Seawolves, an FCS member in the Big South Conference, led 14-7 before the Bulls scored 24 unanswered points before halftime to lead, 31-14.

USF scored three touchdowns in the third quarter and, by midway in the fourth quarter, accumulated more than 500 yards in total offense. The Bulls defense harassed Seavolves quarterback Michael Coulter into four interceptions.

The Bulls step up in competition next Saturday when they visit the University of Florida in Gainesville. Stony Brook hosts American International.
