Boise State has its signature win.

In a thrilling, back-and-forth game, Kellen Moore found Austin Pettis in the back of the end zone with 1:14 left to give the Broncos a 33-30 victory Monday night in Landover, Maryland.

Trailing 30-26, Moore orchestrated a two-minute scoring drive that puts him at the top of the Heisman race and his team in the forefront of the national championship picture. The junior, who has led his team to 15 straight wins, completed 4 of 5 passes for 43 yards on the winning drive and finished with 214 passing yards and three touchdowns.

The Broncos used a blocked punt and two Moore touchdown passes to build a 17-0 lead and quiet a pro-Hokie crowd in the first quarter at FedEx Field. But Virginia Tech stormed back behind three touchdowns from Ryan Williams and a gutty effort from quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Taylor led the Hokies in rushing and threw two touchdown passes, including a 28-yarder to Jarrett Boykin on 4th and 10 to put Virginia Tech ahead late in the third quarter. Taylor completed 15 of 22 passes for 184 yards, but couldn’t put together one last drive after the Broncos took the late lead.

No. 5 Boise State (1-0) is off next week, before returning to face what most believe to be a manageable schedule, heavy with WAC opponents.
