Quarterback Kyle Parker passed for two touchdowns, while tailbacks Andre Ellington and Jamie Harper each rushed for over 100 yards and accounted for two scores as Clemson wore down North Texas, 35-10, in Saturday’s season opener at Clemson Memorial Stadium.

Parker, who is playing his final collegiate football season before embarking on a professional baseball career, completed 9-of-17 passes for 170 yards with touchdown passes to Harper and Brandon Clear to help the Tigers forge an insurmountable 21-7 halftime lead.

Ellington finished with 123 yards on 12 carries, scoring from 60 yards out just 16 seconds into the game to put the hosts ahead for good before adding a 14-yard scoring run late in the third quarter. Harper added 101 yards and a touchdown on nine rushes and also hauled in an 8-yard second-quarter scoring pass from Parker.

The Mean Green fell to 0-1 despite totaling more offense (462 yards to 423 yards) than their hosts, running nearly twice as many offensive plays (83 to 46) and dominating time of possession (41:52 to 18:08).

The Tigers, who host Presbyterian next week, have now won 21 of their last 27 season openers.
