Quarterback Stephen Garcia and freshman tailback Marcus Lattimore each ran for two touchdowns as South Carolina earned a 41-13 victory over Southern Mississippi in the season opener Thursday night.

Garcia had a 22-yard touchdown run and Lattimore scored on runs of 3 and 7 yards to send the Gamecocks past the Golden Eagles.

Sophomore Alshon Jeffery had 106 receiving yards and freshman Ace Sanders had a 53-yard run to set up Lattimore’s first touchdown.

Freshman quarterback Connor Shaw threw a 15-yard touchdown to D.L. Moore in the fourth quarter.

The victory was the 18th in a row for Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier in season openers.
