St. John’s 91, Marquette 90 (2OT): Freshman Rysheed Jordan made the second of two free throws to snap a tie with 19.5 seconds left in the second overtime as the visiting Red Storm held on to edge the Golden Eagles.

Jordan, JaKarr Sampson and D’Angelo Harrison each recorded 20 points as St. John’s (20-11, 10-8 Big East) survived despite blowing a six-point lead in the final 11 seconds of regulation. Jordan also had six assists and five steals and Phil Greene IV added 11 points for the Red Storm, who have won eight of their last 10.

Davante Gardner led the way with 21 points and Todd Mayo had 17 of his 20 after the first half for Marquette (17-14, 9-9), which has dropped three straight. Jamil Wilson contributed 15 points, Jake Thomas had 14 and Deonte Burton added 10 for the Golden Eagles, who are 2-4 in six Big East overtime games this season.

Chris Obekpa’s dunk followed by a Harrison 3-pointer and a Sampson jumper gave St. John’s a 65-59 edge with a little over five minutes to go in the second half. Marquette still trailed by six with 11 seconds left in regulation, but Gardner made two free throws, Thomas scored off a turnover and – after a missed free throw – Mayo’s floater tied it at the buzzer.

Mayo’s three-point play and a 3-pointer by Wilson helped the Golden Eagles gain a chance to win it at the end of the first overtime, but they could not get off a shot. Harrison’s 3-pointer with just under a minute remaining in the second extra session tied it at 90 and, after Jordan’s free throw, Marquette’s Derrick Wilson missed a side jumper at the buzzer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Greene reached double figures in scoring for the first time in 12 games. … St. John’s, who led the nation in blocked shots per game (7.8) coming in, had none in the first half and four overall. … Thomas drained four 3-pointers and has made 66 of his 75 field goals from behind the arc this season.
