No. 20 Michigan 87, Coppin State 45: Freshman Zak Irvin hit six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 24 points as the Wolverines cruised past the visiting Eagles.

Caris LeVert added 15 points and Glenn Robinson III scored 14 for Michigan (5-2), which was without leading scorer Nik Stauskas (ankle). The Wolverines dominated the boards, 44-19, and went 13-of-14 from the foul line.

Dallas Gary scored 11 off the bench to lead Coppin State (2-3), which fell to 0-25 all-time against Big Ten opponents. Taariq Cephas added 10 points and five assists, but leading scorer Sterling Smith was limited to nine points for the Eagles.

The Eagles hung in early, but the Wolverines used a 12-2 run to open a 24-12 lead with just under nine minutes left in the first half. Michigan spread it out to 42-23 at the break and scored the first six points of the second half to make it a 25-point game.

The margin was at least 21 the rest of the way, and Irvin hit three straight 3-pointers to push it to 63-31 with less than 13 1/2 minutes remaining. Coppin State was just 6-of-25 from the floor in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Irvin, whose previous high point total was 10, went 3-for-14 in Michigan's previous game, a 63-61 loss to Charlotte. … Michigan improved to 35-2 at home since the start of the 2011-12 season. … The 45 points marked Coppin State's lowest output since a 57-43 loss at Delaware State last season.
