Junior Cadougan scored a career-high 15 points and added five assists as 11th-seeded Marquette advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament with a 67-61 victory over sixth-seeded West Virginia on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Darius Johnson-Odom scored 11 points for the Golden Eagles (20-13), who will face third-seeded Louisville on Thursday. Marquette came into the tournament as a bubble team for an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, but likely punched its ticket with two Big East tournament victories.

The Golden Eagles trailed 36-29 at the break, but began to get back into it early in the second half when Cadougan scored seven straight points to cut it to 44-42 with 14:08 left.

It would stay within a few points either way until Johnson-Odom knocked down 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give the Golden Eagles a 61-55 edge with 3:53 remaining.

After shooting 56 percent in the first half, the Mountaineers were held to 22 percent in the final 20 minutes.

Kevin Jones scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half for West Virginia (20-11), which won the tournament last season.
