Tyus Battle scored a game-high 18 points and freshman Oshae Brissett recorded a double-double to lead Syracuse to a 77-45 rout of the Cornell Big Red on Friday night before 21,720 fans at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.

The game matched Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim against his son Jimmy.

Jimmy Boeheim, a freshman forward, scored Cornell's first five points and finished with 11 points and five rebounds in 26 minutes. The Boeheim vs. Boeheim dynamic will get even more interesting next year when Buddy Boeheim, Jim's son and Jimmy's brother, joins the Orange.

The Orange (1-0) easily won their 38th consecutive game against Cornell, the third-longest winning streak in the nation behind Syracuse-Colgate (51) and Marquette-University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (39). Boeheim is 30-0 against Cornell as the Big Red hasn't recorded a win over Syracuse since Dec. 4, 1968.

After a sluggish first half, the Orange outscored the Big Red 19-4 in the first seven minutes of the first half to build a 52-29 lead.

Battle scored 10 of those points on a pair of 3-pointers and two nifty drives to the basket.

Brissett had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Frank Howard had nine points and four assists and Matthew Moyer grabbed 10 rebounds. Matt Morgan led Cornell with 14 points.

Howard's runner and 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions sparked a 12-1 Syracuse run that erased Cornell's early 6-5 lead. The Big Red sliced the Orange's 11-point lead to six, 24-18, but Brissett's 3-pointer ignited a 9-2 Syracuse spurt near the end of the half and the Orange led 33-22 at intermission.

The teams combined to shoot just 27 percent (16 for 59) overall and 19 percent (4 for 21) from 3-point range in the first half. With so many missed shots, Syracuse was able to build a double-digit lead because of a 29-18 rebounding edge and a 14-6 advantage in the paint.
