The junior guard also had six rebounds and five assists as the Gamecocks (21-3, 8-3 SEC) won their second straight after Saturday's 81-78 victory at then-No. 8 Texas A&M, their first win against a top-10 opponent on the road since 2006.

LSU freshman forward Ben Simmons finished with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists and freshman guard Antonio Blakeney scored 22 as LSU (15-9, 8-3) had a two-game winning streak snapped.

South Carolina led by seven points early in the first half before LSU used a 10-4 surge to take a two-point lead with 10:26 left before halftime. Thornwell scored all of his 11 first-half points in the final 9:40 and the Gamecocks led 39-35 at the break.

The Tigers erased a nine-point deficit in the second half and tied the score at 60 with 9:05 to play but couldn't recapture the lead.
