Guard London Perrantes' three-pointer with 10 seconds to play in overtime lifted No. 5 Virginia to a 63-62 victory over California on Tuesday night at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va.

Perrantes finished with 10 points and hit the game-winning shot to bail the Cavaliers out from the upset-minded Golden Bears.

Virginia (10-1) took its first lead with 1:01 to play in regulation as guard Darius Thompson sailed in for a dunk after a Cavalier steal. California freshman forward made two free throws with 42 seconds left to force overtime.

Forward Anthony Gill led Virginia with 17 points while guard Malcolm Brogdon put in 10 points which included a crucial three-pointer late in overtime.

Brown scored 18 points for California (9-3). He had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but had the ball stripped by Brogdon before he was able to get a shot off.

California shot 44.2 percent while holding Virginia to 38.9. Each team missed only three free throws as the Golden Bears shot 10 for 13 while the Cavaliers made 14 of their 17 attempts.

California scored the first eight points as the Golden Bears held Virginia scoreless for the first 4:21.

The Cavaliers' luck didn't get much better as they shot 18 percent for the first 20 minutes and trailed 27-20 at the break.
