California raced out to an early lead and never let up on the accelerator during an 84-51 victory over visiting Coppin State on Saturday at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif.

Freshman forward Ivan Rabb had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Bears (9-2). Junior guard Jordan Mathews also scored 13 points and senior guard Tyrone Wallace had 12.

Junior guard Trevon Seymore scored 13 points for Coppin State (2-10). Junior forward Joshua Treadwell scored 11 points and junior guard Christian Kessee had 10.

The Golden Bears staged two early 12-0 runs to take a 24-12 lead with 10:34 to play in the opening half. Coppin State cut the deficit to eight on a three-point play by Treadwell with 7:17 to go, but Cal outscored the Eagles 18-5 over the last seven minutes to take a 43-22 lead into the break.

Cal maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half. The Golden Bears went up 55-31 on a 3-pointer by junior guard Sam Singer with 14:51 to go, took a 53-35 lead on a dunk by Rabb with 10:32 remaining and stretched the lead to 34 in the final minutes.

Cal shot 46.6 percent while holding Coppin State to 24.2-percent shooting. The Bears had a massive 50-33 rebounding advantage.
