CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami outscored Charlotte 31-5 over a nearly 10-minute span in the first half and rolled to a 88-60 victory Saturday afternoon.

The 21st-ranked Hurricanes (7-1) led only 9-5 after the first six minutes but made 11 of their next 17 field-goal attempts to establish a 40-10 cushion with 4:14 left in the opening period.

The Hurricanes settled for a 46-21 advantage at the break and never let the 49ers (1-7) closer than 22 points the rest of the way. Miami's biggest lead was 36 points, 71-35, on guard Davon Reed's jumper with 8:50 remaining in the game.

Miami shot 53.7 percent from the field for the game to Charlotte's 34.3 and put four players in double figures led by guard Ja'Quan Newton's 14 points. Reed had 12 and forwards Kamari Murphy and Ivan Cruz Uceda had 11 each.

Three other players -- guards Angel Rodriguez and Sheldon McClellan and center Tonye Jekiri -- had eight each for the Hurricanes.

Center Joseph Uchebo led Charlotte with 12 points. Center Benas Gricinnas scored 11 and forward Anthony Vanhook 10.
