North Carolina State 66, LSU 65: BeeJay Anya scored on a hook shot as time expired and the Wolfpack rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit to edge the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament round of 64 in Pittsburgh.

Anthony Barber scored 17 points, Abdul-Malik Abu had 13, and Ralston Turner added 10 for No. 8 seed North Carolina State (21-13), which closed the game on an 18-3 run and advances to face top-seeded Villanova in the round of 32 on Saturday. Anya scored all four of his points in the final minute and grabbed seven rebounds, while Trevor Lacey chipped in nine points and nine boards.

Tim Quarterman led LSU (22-11) with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while Jarell Martin added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Mickey collected 12 points, 14 boards and six blocks for the ninth-seeded Tigers, who missed their final six free-throw attempts and finished 12-of-22 from the foul line.

LSU closed the first half on a 21-6 run over the final 8:20 and took a 40-26 lead into the break after outrebounding the Wolfpack 22-12. Martin recorded the Tigers’ final field goal with just over 10 minutes left in the game to give LSU a 60-48 lead, but Kyle Washington drilled a 3-pointer to cap a 10-0 run and cut the deficit to 62-58 with 5:39 left.

Lacey scored with 2:40 left to cut the lead to 65-62 and the Wolfpack moved within one on Anya’s basket with 44 seconds remaining. Mickey missed a layup on the other end and Anya provided the game-winning basket with a lefty hook that bounced on the rim before falling in to complete the comeback.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Keith Hornsby and Jalyn Patterson scored eight points apiece for LSU, which was making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009. … Barber, who exited last Thursday’s ACC tournament game against Duke with a neck injury, was 7-of-16 shooting and added five rebounds and two assists. … The Wolfpack converted their only free throw attempt in the first half and finished 5-of-7 from the foul line.
