Anthony Gill recorded career-best totals of 25 points and 13 rebounds as the host Cavaliers knocked off the Wildcats.

Malcolm Brogdon scored 16 points and made all 12 of his free-throw attempts for Virginia (12-0), which won its 18th consecutive home game. Justin Anderson added 14 points and Darion Atkins contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Jack Gibbs scored 21 points, Tyler Kalinoski tallied 20 and Brian Sullivan had 14 for Davidson (9-2), which had its seven-game winning streak halted. Gibbs and Sullivan each drained four 3-pointers and Kalinoski connected on three.

The Cavaliers trailed most of the first half and finally showed some dominance with a 12-3 second-half burst, capped by Atkins’ basket for a 63-55 lead with 8:23 remaining. A tip-in by Atkins pushed the lead to nine with 6:50 left and Gill’s three-point play increased the advantage to 78-65 with 3:06 to play.

The Wildcats took an early 17-9 lead on Kalinoski’s 3-pointer and the advantage reached 29-17 later in the half on back-to-back 3-pointers by Kalinoski and Gibbs. Virginia closed the half with a 10-2 surge to trail by 36-32 at halftime and knotted the score at 38 on two free throws by Brogdon with 18:01 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia had a 42-25 rebounding edge and collected 17 offensive boards. … The Wildcats went 11-of-28 from 3-point range. … The double-double was the second of Gill’s career.
