Jeff Withey had 17 points and nine rebounds as the Jayhawks won their ninth Big 12 tournament title and strengthened their case for a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Perry Ellis and Naadir Tharpe added 12 points apiece for Kansas (29-5), which recorded its third win over the Wildcats this season while shooting 49.1 percent. The top-seeded Jayhawks cruised to the tournament title by outscoring their three opponents by an average of 19.7 points.

Rodney McGruder led second-seeded Kansas State (27-7) with 18 points and Angel Rodriguez added 10. The Wildcats went nearly 11 minutes without a field goal in the first half and trailed 24-16 at the break.

Kansas used a 12-3 run to move ahead 40-28 with 13:25 remaining and were never threatened in the second half. Forward Kevin Young contributed nine points and nine boards for the Jayhawks, who have won 10 of their last 11 games.

The Wildcats were held to 35 percent shooting and missed 18-of -24 shots from 3-point range. Kansas State trailed by 16 with 5:24 to play and lost for the second time in the last 10 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Jayhawks have won 47 of the last 50 meetings with Kansas State. … Withey was named the Big 12 tournament’s most outstanding player. Rodriguez and McGruder joined Withey on the all-tournament team, along with Ellis from Kansas. .... The Jayhawks will be making their 24th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the longest active streak in Division I.
