Texas 89, Iowa State 86 (2OT): Sheldon McClellan scored 10 of his 18 points in double overtime, lifting the host Longhorns past the Cyclones.

McClellan, who scored all of Texas’ points in the second extra period, put the Longhorns (11-13, 3-8 Big 12) on top to stay with two free throws with 45 seconds left.

Iowa State (16-8, 6-5) had two shots in the final 16 seconds, but missed both and lost the ball on a turnover with three seconds remaining.

Texas led 79-74 with 2:30 left in the first overtime, only to see the Cyclones battle back to tie the game at 79 on Korie Lucious’ jumper with 1:25 left. Iowa State led by six with 3:58 remaining in regulation, but Texas’ Ioannis Papapetrou’s 3-pointer with two seconds left tied the game at 71.

Tyrus McGee hit five 3-pointers off the bench for Iowa State, scoring 21 points. Melvin Ejim scored 20 points with 16 rebounds, and Will Clyburn also scored 20 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Connor Lammert and Papapetrou each scored 14 points for the Longhorns. … Texas held the Cyclones scoreless for more than five minutes, scoring 16 unanswered points to take a 25-17 lead with 8:30 left in the half. But Iowa State used a 13-0 run late in the half to retake the lead, and the Cyclones held a 37-33 halftime advantage. … Texas G Myck Kabongo scored 13 points with seven assists in his season debut. Kabongo missed the first 23 games due to a NCAA suspension.
