Freshman guard Phil Forte scored 11 points, including a pair of free throws with 7.9 seconds remaining to put Oklahoma State (15-5, 5-3 Big 12) ahead by three, as the Cowboys snapped a 16-game losing streak at Allen Fieldhouse dating back to 1989.

Freshman guard Ben McLemore scored 23 points for Kansas (19-2, 7-1), which also had a 33-game home win streak snapped. Forward Kevin Young added 12 points and center Jeff Withey finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Brown scored 22 points in the first half when the Cowboys bolted to a 26-12 lead, taking advantage of eight Kansas turnovers in the first nine minutes in the process. But the Jayhawks chipped away and took a 46-45 lead on a 3-pointer by McLemore with 15:08 remaining.

The Cowboys went on a 13-2 run, highlighted by a pair of rebound baskets by Smart to go ahead 75-68 with 1:12 to go. Kansas got as close as 81-80 on a layup by Elijah Johnson with 19 seconds left before Smart dribbled out of a trap and got the ball to Forte, the son of a former Kansas football player, who sank both free throws. Smart stole another pass as Kansas tried to set up for a potential game-tying 3-point attempt and lobbed the ball to Forte who laid it in at the buzzer.
