No. 12 Creighton 81, Southern Illinois 51: Doug McDermott had 21 points and 10 rebounds and the visiting Bluejays ended a two-game losing streak in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Creighton (18-3, 7-2 WVC) shot 63 percent from the field and had five players score in double figures for the first time this season. Grant Gibbs scored 13 points and Gregory Echenique, Ethan Wragge and Jahenns Manigat had 12 apiece.

Desmar Jackson scored 16 points for the Salukis (8-12, 1-8), who were outrebounded 39-19.

Southern Illinois was without senior guard Jeff Early, who was serving a one-game suspension for committing a flagrant-2 foul in Wednesday’s loss to Northern Iowa. He is averaging 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds.

The Bluejays shot 73.9 percent in the opening half on their way to building a 43-25 lead. McDermott scored 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting and Creighton owned a 17-5 advantage on the boards through the first 20 minutes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Creighton came into the game leading the nation in field goal percentage (51.5) and 3-point field goal percentage (44.1). The Bluejays were 12-for-20 from long distance. … When the Bluejays played Southern Illinois last February, they broke a conference record by shooting 77.5 percent from the floor in the 88-69 road victory. …. Creighton coach Greg McDermott, the father of Doug McDermott, won his 350th career game and 70th at Creighton.
