Jeff Withey collected 17 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks as the Jayhawks easily dispatched the visiting Spiders.

Ben McLemore added 14 points while Travis Releford and Naadir Tharpe scored 11 each for Kansas (9-1), which won its eighth straight overall and its 28th in a row at home.

Derrick Williams led the way with 14 points on 4-of-12 shooting for Richmond (9-3), which shot 32.8 percent and had its five-game winning streak come to an end.

The Jayhawks jumped out quickly and used an 18-0 run midway through the first half to take control. Withey and McLemore scored five points apiece during the burst as the Spiders went 8:16 without scoring.

It was 39-18 at the break and Kansas used a 20-3 spurt in the middle of the second half to put the game away. Releford’s 3-pointer with 6:19 left capped the run and pushed the Jayhawks’ lead out to 71-35.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas has taken 61 straight games against non-conference competition at Allen Fieldhouse. … Richmond fell to 7-4 in its last 11 games against ranked teams. The Spiders will not face another team currently ranked in the Top 25 until a trip to No. 25 Butler on Jan. 16. … The Jayhawks dominated the glass, 43-24, and held Richmond to 9-of-32 from 3-point range.
