Mouphtaou Yarou scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds and JayVaughn Pinkston added 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench as the visiting Wildcats snapped a three-game losing streak with a win in the SEC/Big East Challenge.

Neither team led by more than eight points in the back-and-forth contest. The Commodores (2-4) led by as many as five in the first half, but the Wildcats (4-3) rallied to take a 31-26 halftime lead and never let it shrink below four in the second half.

Rob Odom scored 14 points to lead Vanderbilt. Kevin Bright added 12 points and 12 rebounds and Kedren Johnson had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Darrun Hilliard, Ryan Arcidiacono and James Bell each scored eight points for the Wildcats, who won for just the second time in 15 games over the past two seasons when scoring fewer than 70 points.

Villanova has won both all-time meetings. The previous contest was in the finals of the 1994 NIT.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yarou became the first player to lead the Wildcats in scoring in two games this season. … Vanderbilt dropped to 26-39 all-time against current members of the Big East. … The Big East won nine of 12 games against the SEC in the event.
