No. 24 UCLA 82, Cal State Northridge 56: Norman Powell led four Bruins in double figures with 17 points and UCLA rebounded from a difficult loss to Cal Poly to post a non-conference win at the New Pauley Pavilion.

Playing without backup center Joshua Smith, who announced he was leaving the school earlier in the day, the Bruins got 15 points from Kyle Anderson and 14 from Travis Wear. Freshman Shabazz Muhammad added 13 points and nine rebounds.

UCLA (5-2) led 38-24 at the break and put the game away with an 11-2 run to open the second half. The Bruins led by as many as 28 points in the second half.

After opening the season with six straight wins, Northridge (6-2) has lost back-to-back games. The Matadors got 11 points from Stephan Hicks and 10 from Landon Drew.

UCLA shot 53.1 percent from the field and outrebounded Northridge 41-31.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Smith averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds while playing 13.5 minutes per game in UCLA’s six games this season. He started 24 games over two seasons, battling weight and conditioning issues. ... Tyler Lamb left the UCLA program on Sunday. Lamb was also a key reserve. ... Larry Drew II had 13 assists for UCLA.
