No. 25 San Diego State 66, Southern California 60: Jamaal Franklin had 17 points and nine rebounds and James Rahon also scored 17 points as the Aztecs defeated the Trojans in Los Angeles for the first time in seven visits.

Xavier Thames scored 14 points and J.J. O’Brien added 12 as San Diego State (4-1) won its fourth straight game and stretched its winning streak over current Pac-12 programs to 10.

Eric Wise scored 14 points and Dewayne Dedmon grabbed 10 rebounds for USC (3-3), which led 55-54 with under 5 1/2 minutes to play before Franklin’s dunk began a game-ending 12-5 surge for San Diego State.

USC recovered from a 19-point first-half deficit and finally caught the Aztecs at 39-39 on a layup by Wise with 14:02 remaining. The Trojans took their first lead of the game 25 seconds later on another basket by Wise.

San Diego State jumped out to a 27-8 lead as the Trojans began the contest by going 3-of-20 from the field. USC used an 11-4 surge to end the half and cut the Aztecs’ lead to 35-23.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego State was without starting guard Chase Tapley, who injured a knee during Friday’s practice, and then lost forward Deshawn Stephens to a hip pointer in the opening minutes. … USC had a 40-32 edge on the boards and collected 16 on the offensive end. … Aztecs freshman Winston Shepard returned from a three-game suspension due to violating NCAA preferential treatment regulations.
