Rutgers 87, UNCG 80: Myles Mack and Eli Carter combined for 49 points to help the Scarlet Knights hold off the Spartans in Greensboro, N.C.

Rutgers trailed UNCG at the half, 43-40, and needed everything its top two scorers could give to overcome a valiant effort from the host Spartans. Carter finished with 25 points for the Scarlet Knights (4-1), who won their fourth straight. Mack ended with 24 points to go with five assists.

This was the second consecutive game in which Carter was perfect from the free throw line, hitting all six of his attempts against UNCG after a 9-for-9 effort against Boston University.

Derrell Armstrong led the Spartans (1-4) with 25 points. UNCG led by as many as 10 and the Spartans outrebounded Rutgers 39-27 while pulling down 20 offensive boards.

The efforts of Carter and Mack accounted for more than 56 percent of Rutgers' offense, with the prolific pair knocking down a combined 18-of-26 from the field.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rutgers improved to 4-0 all-time against Southern Conference teams in its first meeting with UNCG... The Spartans are winless all-time in four games against current members of the Big East... Trevis Simpson added 16 points for UNCG, bringing him to within 28 for 1,000 in his career.
