Elon 65, South Carolina 53: Lucas Troutman scored 17 points as the Phoenix pulled off an upset of the host Gamecocks for the second consecutive season.

Elon (4-1) led from start to finish, weathering an early second-half surge by South Carolina (3-1). The Phoenix led 39-35 before using a 14-2 run to go ahead 53-37 on Troutman’s dunk with 10:42 remaining.

Jack Isenbarger and Austin Hamilton each added 13 points for Elon, which finished 8-for-15 from 3-point range. The Phoenix opened the game with an 11-3 run, led the entire first half and opened a 28-15 advantage on Hamilton’s jumper 5:07 before halftime.

South Carolina, which had shot more than 50 percent from the field in its past two games, shot 32.1 percent. The Gamecocks rallied to within 31-23 at intermission and were down 57-52 with 5:45 left but could not get any closer.

Lakeem Jackson led the Gamecocks with 14 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Phoenix upended the Gamecocks 58-53 last season. … The Gamecocks were dreadful in the first half, shooting 34.8 percent from the field and committing 14 turnovers.
