No. 14 UCLA 100, James Madison 70: Norman Powell scored a game-high 27 points and the host Bruins hammered the Dukes at the New Pauley Pavilion.

Freshman Jordan Adams continued his torrid start for the Bruins with 25 points and is averaging 24 after his first three games. He entered the game 21-of-22 from the free-throw line and went 7-for-7 on Thursday.

Adams became the first Bruin to start his career with three games of 20-plus points.

Larry Drew II had seven points and 12 assists for UCLA (3-0), which led 63-29 at the half.

Rayshawn Goins led James Madison with 24 points in its season-opener. A.J. Davis added 16.

GAME NOTEBOOK: UCLA has officially appealed the suspension of freshman Shabazz Muhammad. The highly touted recruit was suspended by the NCAA for amateurism violations. … Kyle Anderson started for the Bruins. Anderson suffered a bone contusion of his right wrist in UCLA’s victory over UC Irvine on Tuesday. He grabbed 12 rebounds against the Dukes. …UCLA has scored 100 points three times in the Ben Howland era.
