: Brandon Ubel recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds and Dylan Talley added 17 as the Cornhuskers won their season opener over the visiting Jaguars.

Three of Nebraska's starters scored in double digits in head coach Tim Miles' first game at the helm. Ray Gallegos scored 16 points and freshman Benny Parker shot 4-for-7 from the field for eight points for the Cornhuskers (1-0).

Southern (0-2) fell behind 9-0 early and spent the game playing catch up.

Despite trailing by double digits several times in the first half, the Jaguars managed to cut the deficit to six at halftime. But Nebraska didn't let them get closer than within three before pulling away.

Derick Beltran led Southern with 17 as the Jaguars fell despite shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. YonDarius Johnson came off the bench to score 13.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nebraska won its 23rd consecutive season opener, a streak that dates back to 1980. … Southern fell to 0-2 all-time against opponents from the Big Ten. … The Cornhuskers are now 14-13 in first games under a new coach.
