Iowa State 82, Southern 59: Percy Gibson had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the host Cyclones past the Jaguars in the season opener for both teams.

Will Clyburn, a transfer from Utah, scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in his first game with Iowa State. Georges Niang had 15 points and Anthony Booker added 11.

Derick Beltran scored a game-high 26 points, making 10-of-21 from the field, to pace Southern.

The Jaguars led 16-6 four minutes into the game and controlled most of the first half. Southern led 32-21 at the 7:13 mark, but Iowa State finished the half on a 20-7 run. Niang's 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining gave the Cyclones a 41-39 halftime lead.

Iowa State used an 11-2 run to break a 41-41 tie early in the second half and the Cyclones gradually increased the lead.
