Doug McDermott broke out of a mini-slump with 30 points as No. 14 Creighton defeated host Drake 77-69 on Wednesday.

Creighton (19-2, 9-1 Missouri Valley) won its sixth straight game on the road for the first time since 1975.

The Bulldogs cut an 11-point halftime deficit to two, but Creighton sophomore Jahenns Manigat silenced the crowd with three timely 3-pointers in the second half. He finished with 15 points, all from beyond the arc.

McDermott, who came in averaging 23.2 points per game, had been held to 27 points combined in his last two games. The coach’s son faced relentless chants from the student section, but hit six straight free throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Bluejays. He also added nine rebounds.

Drake (12-9, 5-5 MVC) held a one-point lead for 10 seconds in the first half before Creighton jumped out in front with a 21-5 run. The Bluejays led 37-26 at the break behind 13 points from McDermott.

Leading scorer Rayvonte Rice had 23 points and 11 rebounds, Ben Simons scored 18 and Kurt Alexander added 16 off the bench for Drake.

The Bulldogs dropped to 1-9 against ranked teams over the past 10 years, including 0-4 at home.

With Wichita State defeating Evansville, Creighton remains tied with the Shockers for first place in the MVC.
