Thomas Robinson had 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as No. 15 Kansas held off No. 22 Kansas State in a sloppy 67-49 victory Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse.

Travis Releford added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Jayhawks (11-3, 1-0 Big 12), who defeated Kansas State for the sixth straight time at home and for the 17th time in the last 18 tries.

The Wildcats (11-2, 0-1 Big 12) trailed 35-20 at the half but stormed back to within 39-36 on Jamar Samuels’ 3-pointer with 12:17 left. Kansas, which committed 19 turnovers, misfired on six of its first eight second-half shots and couldn’t do much of anything right.

But Connor Teahan responded with 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, sparking a 14-5 run that helped the Jayhawks stretch the lead back to double figures.

Rodney McGruder had a team-high 15 points and Samuels added 12 for the Wildcats, who fell behind 19-5 midway through the first half. Over the last five years — all under head coach Frank Martin — Kansas State has trailed by a combined 112-43 at the 10-minute mark of the first half in games played at Allen Fieldhouse. Not surprisingly, Kansas has won each game by 14 or more.

The defeat snapped a six-game win streak for Kansas State, which lost its Big 12 opener for the fourth straight year. Kansas, meanwhile, has won 21 straight conference openers.

Tyshawn Taylor had 13 points, but a team-high eight turnovers, and Jeff Withey added eight points and nine rebounds for the Jayhawks, who had a 48-24 advantage on the glass.

Kansas State was held to 31.6 percent from the field and finished 20 points shy of its previous season-low.
