Ray Turner had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 25 Texas A&M used another strong defensive effort to run past visiting Sam Houston State 64-37 on Wednesday.

Turner, the leading scorer and rebounder for the Aggies, scored 10 of his points in the first half and finished 7-of-9 from the field.

Texas A&M (7-1), which won its 66th consecutive non-conference home game, came in allowing an average of only 16.6 first-half points in home games, and that trend continued when it led 31-17 at the break.

Demarcus Gatlin scored 13 points to lead the Bearkats (3-6), who shot only 25 percent and had their two-game winning streak snapped.

Elston Turner had 14 points and David Loubeau added 11 for Texas A&M, which won its 17th in a row over Sam Houston State in a series that dates to 1945.

Turner hit a floater that made it 48-25 with 12:21 remaining before the two teams went without a field goal for a six-minute stretch as the Aggies’ lead hung around 20.

Texas A&M point guard Dash Harris went down with an apparent ankle injury 4 1/2 minutes into the game on a hard drive to the basket. He laid on the court in pain and was helped off the floor, but later returned.

The Bearkats, who were missing their top three post players because of injuries, were outrebounded 44-27.
