Jimmer Fredette had 32 points and eight assists Thursday to lead third-seeded Brigham Young to a 74-66 victory over Wofford in the second round of the NCAA tournament in Denver.

Charles Abouo, Noah Hartsock and Logan Magnusson all scored 10 points for the Cougars (31-4), who will play Gonzaga on Saturday in the third round of the Southeast Regional on Saturday.

Noah Dahlman had 22 points and nine rebounds and Jamar Diggs added 14 points for 14th-seeded Wofford (21-14).

Fredette, the nation’s leading scorer, was 10 for 25 from the field but just 2 of 9 from 3-point range.

The Terriers were within 57-51 after Terry Martin’s two free throws with 7:15 to play but went nearly four minutes without scoring. Abouo scored eight straight points to give BYU a 14-point lead with 3:47 remaining.

Kyle Collinsworth scored just two points but had game-high totals of 12 rebounds and four steals.

The Terriers led 17-14 with 9:03 left in the first half after a 3-point basket by Cameron Rundles wrapped up a 7-0 run. The lead reached 25-21 a short time later before BYU scored nine unanswered points and took a five-point lead on Fredette’s 3-pointer with 2:34 remaining.

The Cougars led 33-29 at halftime despite shooting just 34.3 percent. Fredette scored 15 first-half points.
