Draymond Green was a one-man wrecking crew with 21 points, 14 rebounds and four assists as Michigan State kept its NCAA tournament hopes alive by holding off lowly Iowa 66-61 in the first round of the Big Ten tournament Thursday.

Kalin Lucas scored 11 points and Keith Appling added 10 off the bench for the seventh-seeded Spartans (18-13), who sit firmly on the NCAA bubble and may need a quarterfinal win Friday against second-seeded Purdue to solidify their spot.

Bryce Cartwright had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists for 10th-seeded Iowa (11-20), which provided Michigan State its worst loss of the season, 72-52, on Feb. 2.

Green scored four points and Durrell Summers capped a 17-6 run with a left-corner 3-pointer as the Spartans turned a seven-point deficit into a 62-58 lead with 4:21 to play.

Iowa’s Zach McCabe drained a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:33 to play to cut the deficit to one, but he missed a 3-pointer from the same spot one minute later that would have given the Hawkeyes the lead.

Summers drained two free throws with 14.5 seconds left to restore a three-point lead, and Iowa’s Matt Gatens missed a well-contested 3-pointer from the right wing in the final seconds that would have tied it.
