Matt Dorr scored 17 points and Darian Norris added 15 for San Diego (6-21, 2-10 WCC), which entered the game with three wins over Division I opponents. Chris Gabriel added 10 points and six rebounds for the Toreros, who outscored Saint Mary’s 50-34 in the second half.

Mitchell Young had 24 points and nine rebounds off the bench for Saint Mary’s (22-5, 10-2), which needed a win to clinch a share of its first regular-season conference title in 14 years. Mickey McConnell added 21 points and six assists.

Down 32-24 at halftime, San Diego responded in the second half with 66.7 percent shooting from the field, and made 6 of 7 from 3-point range.

With the loss, the Gaels' non-conference game Saturday against No. 24 Utah State takes on added importance. Saint Mary's still leads the WCC by one game in the loss column over second-place Gonzaga and San Francisco.
