No. 16 Notre Dame withstood a late Cincinnati run, holding on for a 66-58 home victory on Wednesday evening.

The Fighting Irish (15-4, 4-3 Big East) took control early, with two 3-pointers by Tim Abromaitis bookending a run of 13 straight points that built a 16-6 lead. Another 9-0 spurt late in the first half helped Notre Dame go into the break with a 33-19 cushion.

Cincinnati made a late run, scoring eight unanswered points to get within five, 57-52, with 1:17 remaining, but the Fighting Irish were able to ice the game at the foul line. Notre Dame hit 18 of 22 free throws, with Ben Hansbrough making 11 of his 12 attempts.

Hansbrough and Tyrone Nash scored 13 points apiece to lead the way for Notre Dame, which got at least 11 points from each starter. Sean Kilpatrick paced the Bearcats (16-3, 3-3) with 16 points.
