Corey Fisher finished with 21 points, five assists and four steals as No. 11 Villanova pulled away from Delaware, 78-59, on Saturday.

Maalik Wayns added 14 points for the Wildcats (9-1), who overcame a sloppy first half by locking down on the defensive end.

Villanova held the Blue Hens to 25 percent (6-of-24) from the floor in the first half to open up a 34-24 lead at the break. Fisher had 10 points in the first half but also committed six of the Wildcats’ 14 turnovers in the period, keeping them from pulling further away.

Fisher cleaned up the mistakes in the second half and Villanova used a 14-0 burst to push the lead to 53-34 with 12:19 left. Delaware managed to cut it to single digits with seven minutes left but the Wildcats’ guards were too strong as Fisher and Wayns continued to attack the rim.

Villanova visits Monmouth this week before completing its tour of the Philadelphia Big 5 schools by hosting Temple in the last pre-conference game on December 30.

The Blue Hens (5-3) had their five-game winning streak snapped.
