D.J. Gay made eight free throws in the final 38 seconds Monday and No. 10 San Diego State survived a major scare from Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo and remained unbeaten with a 51-45 win.

Playing without leading scorer Kawhi Leonard (illness), San Diego State (11-0) had their worst offensive performance of the season, shooting just 16-of-46 (34.8 percent) and committing 14 turnovers.

The Aztecs, who entered the game averaging 51.1 percent from the floor and 38.0 percent from beyond the arc, failed to hit a single 3-pointer, finishing 0-of-18.

Malcolm Thomas had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Aztecs, who led 47-45 with 13 seconds left. Gay (10 points) went 8-of-8 from the free-throw line to secure the win.

James Rahon added 14 points for the Aztecs, who clearly missed Leonard. The sophomore forward recorded his seventh double-double of the season Saturday against San Diego.

Shawn Lewis and David Hanson had 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Cal Poly (3-6), which lost at UCLA by 11 points on Saturday. Cal Poly trailed 16-15 at halftime as both teams struggled from the field. The Mustangs were 5-of-27 (18.5 percent) from the field in the first half.
