Sophomore forward Kawhi Leonard scored 20 points as No. 15 San Diego State used a dominant second half to pull away from host California 77-57 Wednesday.

The Aztecs, who are off to the first 9-0 start in school history, outscored Cal 49-31 in the second half. As good as the Aztecs were offensively, their defense was even more impressive.

The Bears (5-3) shot 18 for 49 (36.7 percent) from the field, including 0 for 9 on 3-pointers, and made one field goal in the final 4:57. California entered the game shooting 43.2 percent from the floor this season.

James Rahon contributed 15 points to San Diego State's balanced scoring attack, followed by D.J. Gay (14) and Billy White (10).

Harper Kamp led the Bears with 18 points and five rebounds, and Markhuri Sanders-Frison added eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Point guard Jorge Gutierrez scored 19 points.

San Diego State is fast gaining a reputation as a second-half team; the Aztecs entered the game outscoring teams by a combined two points in the first half, but 201-139 in the second half.

True to form, San Diego State led 28-26 at halftime against the Bears, who were playing the first of five straight home games before starting Pac-10 play Jan. 2 at Stanford.
