Tim Williams scored 20 points and St. Mary’s raced out to a big lead and never looked back in an 88-68 victory over Texas Tech in a matchup at the South Padre Island Invitational on Friday.

The Gaels (6-0) remained perfect thanks to a nearly flawless first half. St. Mary’s shot 69 percent (20-of-29) from the field in the first half to open up a 47-23 lead. Mickey McConnell led the Gaels with 14 first-half points.

Texas Tech just couldn’t keep up as St. Mary’s made nearly as many shots in the first half as the Red Raiders attempted (23).

Williams added 10 rebounds and four blocks while McConnell finished with 18 points for St. Mary’s.

Robert Lowandowski scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds for Texas Tech, which dropped to 4-2 and had its three-game win streak snapped.

St. Mary’s now faces Brigham Young after the Cougars posted a 77-75 victory in overtime over South Florida. The Red Raiders will next meet the Bulls.
