A strong first half lifted Stanford to a 64-48 non-conference victory over UC San Diego in its 2010-11 season opener Monday in Palo Alto, Calif.

Junior forward Andrew Zimmermann and sophomore guard Gabriel Harris led the way for the Cardinal with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The duo shot a stellar 11 of 13 from the field.

The Cardinal used an 18-0 run in the first half to break a 7-7 tie and led 35-19 at the half. They were able to turn 13 UCSD first-half turnovers into 16 points. The Toreros (1-1) finished with 20 turnovers.

Chris Manresa's layup sparked UCSD's 10-2 run to open the second half and closed the deficit to 10 points, but the Toreros never got any closer.

Up next for the Cardinal is Thursday's non-conference home contest against Virginia, which was a 74-54 winner over the University of South Carolina-Upstate on Monday.
