Kalin Lucas scored 19 points and Durrell Summers added 17 as No. 2 Michigan State easily defeated Eastern Michigan 97-66 on Friday.

Keith Appling chipped in 14 points and Draymond Green had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Spartans (1-0), who shot 52 percent and dominated the boards, 45-36.

Michigan State led 49-33 at the half behind 15 points and three assists from Lucas and nine points from Summers. The Spartans shot 55 percent (17 of 31) in the first 20 minutes, but the Eagles were able to keep it from getting out of hand because of Brandon Bowdry, who scored 16 points in the half.

It was 63-45 when Antonio Green knocked down a 3-pointer for Eastern Michigan (0-1) with 14:33 left, but the Spartans ripped off an 11-0 spurt to run away with it.

Bowdry finished with a game-high 32 points and 14 boards for the Eagles.
