NEW YORK -- Forward Al Horford scored 24 points and forward Mike Scott added 20 points, leading the balanced Atlanta Hawks to a textbook 114-111 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night at the Prudential Center, damaging the Nets' Eastern Conference playoff hopes in the process.

The victory gave the Hawks a franchise-record 59 wins with just 19 losses. The loss dropped the Nets to 36-42 overall and into a tie with Boston for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Both teams have four games to play, but the Boston Celtics have the tiebreaker, having defeated the Nets three out of four games this season.

Horford gave the Hawks the lead for good with his slam dunk with 19.1 seconds remaining. Guard Jeff Teague added two free throws with 2.7 seconds left for the final score. Teague chipped in with 15 points and 12 assists.

Besides Horford and Scott, the Hawks received 19 points from forward DeMarre Carroll.

Center Brook Lopez paced the Nets with 26 points and 10 rebounds and forward Joe Johnson added 21 in vain. Johnson had a chance to tie the game, but his 3-point attempt rimmed the basket as the buzzer sounded.

Besides Lopez and Johnson, the Nets received 15 points and 11 rebounds from forward Thaddeus Young before fouling out in the closing seconds. Guard Deron Williams had 10 points and 13 assists for Brooklyn.

The Hawks raced out to a 6-0 early lead and never looked back, eventually leading by 11 in the quarter and taking a 33-26 lead after one period.

Carroll scored on consecutive trips on running jumper and a power slam to give the Hawks a 17-6 lead with 6:03 left in the first. Carroll then drained a 3-pointer to give Atlanta a 31-21 lead with 41.7 seconds left.

Horford scored on consecutive alley-oop slams in the second quarter that gave the Hawks a 59-49 lead in the closing minutes of the second quarter. The Hawks led 65-56 at the half.

The Hawks continued their clinic in the third quarter, holding the Nets at bay. At one point, the Hawks had 31 made baskets and 26 assists, showing their complete unselfishness.

Scott drained two long jump shots to give the Hawks a 94-82 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Johnson made two straight baskets to give the Nets their first lead of the game at 109-108 with 3:13 left.

The game remained that way until the closing seconds.

NOTES: The Hawks did not issue any further statement about the arrests of C Pero Antic and F Thabo Sefolosha for their involvement in an altercation outside a New York nightclub that resulted in the stabbing of Pacers F Chris Copeland. Antic and Sefolosha were arraigned and later released on their own recognizance after they were charged with allegedly hindering prosecution and trying to interfere with police setting up a crime scene. ... Nets majority owner Mikhail Prohkorov made a rare appearance Wednesday night, his first in Brooklyn since November. Prohkorov, who reportedly lost nearly $150 million due to a drop in the Russian business market, said that it was never his intention to sell the team. ... Prohkorov said he still has faith in Nets GM Billy King. "I like his ability to be bold," Prohkorov said. ... Hawks F Paul Millsap (right shoulder sprain) remained out. ... The Nets were without G Alan Anderson (sprained left ankle).
