Trail Blazers 108, Spurs 95: Damian Lillard had 23 points and a career-high 10 rebounds as host Portland outlasted shorthanded San Antonio.

LaMarcus Aldridge also scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who handed the Spurs their third loss in the last five games. Wesley Matthews scored 10 of his 14 points in the opening quarter and Chris Kaman added 11 points off the bench for Portland, which lost starting center Robin Lopez to a fractured right hand.

San Antonio played without Tim Duncan (rest), Tony Parker (hamstring), Manu Ginobili (lower back) and Tiago Splitter (calf), leaving the Spurs without three of their top four scorers. All five starters scored in double figures for San Antonio, led by Kawhi Leonard with 21 points and nine rebounds, but he left for the locker room late in the game gripping his right hand, which he injured last week and missed two games.

The Spurs committed seven of their 15 turnovers in the first quarter as Portland took a 23-20 lead and stretched the advantage to as much as 10 midway through the second quarter. The Trail Blazers maintained a five-point advantage at the half and didn’t allow San Antonio any closer than four in the third quarter as the Trail Blazers carried an eight-point lead into the fourth.

Kyle Anderson scored in close on the opening possession of the fourth quarter but two points was all the Spurs could shave off the lead. Kaman came right back with a basket and Portland’s lead fluctuated between seven and 13 points the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Anderson, a rookie out of UCLA, scored 15 points for his first game in double figures, and San Antonio F Aron Baynes matched his season high with 15 points. … Starting with the game against Portland, the Spurs play 10 straight games against Western Conference teams that began the week in the top 10 in the West standings. … Lillard is the first member of the Trail Blazers with at least 500 points and 150 assists in the first 25 games of a season since Rod Strickland in 1995-96.
