Pelicans 100, Hornets 91:
Anthony Davis led the way with 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks as New Orleans took over in the second half to dispatch visiting Charlotte.

Jrue Holiday collected 16 points and nine assists while Tyreke Evans posted 16 points and 10 boards for the Pelicans, who took the battle of current and former Hornets. Ryan Anderson scored 16 off the bench and Omer Asik had 10 points and 11 rebounds for New Orleans.

Gary Neal scored 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting off the bench for Charlotte, which has dropped three straight since a dramatic win in its opener. Al Jefferson scored 20 points but was held to five rebounds as the Hornets were beaten on the boards 47-34

Charlotte took a 48-47 lead into the half but missed its first six shots in the third quarter as the Pelicans began the period with an 11-2 run to take control. Holiday found Davis with 1:20 left in the third to give New Orleans a 71-56 lead before Neal scored six points in the final 37 seconds of the quarter to cut the deficit to eight points heading to the fourth.

Anderson’s jumper with 8:21 left stretched it back to 85-73, and Evans buried a 3-pointer midway through the fourth to spread the advantage to 15 points. The Hornets cut it back to single digits in the final two minutes but never made a serious run.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Pelicans F John Salmons (personal) missed his second straight game and is day-to-day. … Charlotte F Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (chest contusion) sat out and G/F Gerald Henderson scored six points while starting in his place. … The Hornets’ starting backcourt of Henderson, Kemba Walker and Lance Stephenson combined to go 7-for-23 from the field.
