Mavericks 123, 76ers 70: Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting as host Dallas routed winless Philadelphia and won by the largest margin of victory in franchise history.

Monta Ellis had 17 points as the Mavericks recorded their ninth straight home win over the 76ers. Chandler Parsons and Brandan Wright scored 14 points apiece and Tyson Chandler grabbed 10 rebounds to go with nine points for Dallas.

Michael Carter-Williams made his season debut and had 19 points and eight rebounds for the 76ers, whose 0-8 start is the franchise’s worst since the 1972-73 squad lost its first 15 games. Tony Wroten added 11 points as Philadelphia shot just 29.9 percent from the field and went 17-of-33 from the free-throw line while suffering the third-worst defeat in franchise history.

The 76ers were 4-of-18 shooting in the opening quarter as Dallas rolled to a 38-10 lead. The advantage reached 40 points on Chandler’s basket with 6:47 left in the half and the Mavericks shot 58.5 percent – to Philadelphia’s 25.7 – while taking a 73-29 halftime advantage.

Carter-Williams, last year’s Rookie of the Year, missed the first seven games with a shoulder injury and came off the bench and had a team-high nine points in the first half. The 76ers, who committed 28 turnovers, trailed by 42 points entering the final stanza and scored only 17 over the final 12 minutes as Dallas won by 50 or more for the second time in franchise history.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dallas’ previous largest margin of victory was a 128-78 win over the New York Knicks on Jan. 24, 2010. … The 44-point halftime margin also was the largest in Mavericks’ history. … Philadelphia PF Nerlens Noel (ankle) had five points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes after missing the previous two games.
