Kings 107, Lakers 102: Rudy Gay scored 31 points and Ray McCallum added a career-best 27 as host Sacramento dispatched Los Angeles.

DeMarcus Cousins contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Kings prevailed for the second straight game. Jason Thompson grabbed 12 rebounds and Ben McLemore added 12 points.

Jodie Meeks scored 21 points and Jordan Hill added 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Lakers, who were without Pau Gasol after he had what was termed by the team as a “severe recurrence of vertigo.” Nick Young added 17 points and Kent Bazemore scored 14 as the Lakers reached 50 losses for the first time since going 30-52 in 1974-75.

The Kings had a 13-point lead with under eight minutes to play before Young and Wesley Johnson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull Los Angeles within 94-87 with seven minutes remaining. The Lakers trailed 105-102 after Johnson’s basket with 1:06 to play before McCallum and Travis Outlaw each split two free throws for the final margin.

McCallum had 17 first-half points as Sacramento held a 60-52 lead at the break. Los Angeles briefly tied the score in the third quarter and trailed by one after a 3-pointer by Bazemore with 4:43 left before the Kings closed with a 14-4 burst to take an 87-76 advantage into the final stanza.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gasol played Tuesday after missing four games but had a major flare up Wednesday in Sacramento and there is no timetable for his return. … Sacramento had a 52-38 edge in points in the paint. … Kings PG Isaiah Thomas (thigh) missed his fifth straight game while C Chris Kaman (calf), PG Steve Nash (back) and G/F Xavier Henry (knee) sat out for the Lakers.
