Knicks 92, Jazz 83: Carmelo Anthony led the way with 34 points and eight rebounds as New York closed out a five-game trip by knocking off host Utah.

Tyson Chandler added 15 points and nine rebounds and J.R. Smith scored 13 points for the Knicks, who remained one game behind the Atlanta Hawks in the race for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. Raymond Felton contributed 12 points and six assists for New York, which went 3-2 on the trip.

Gordon Hayward scored 18 points and Alec Burks had 17 as the Jazz lost their fifth straight game. Derrick Favors recorded 13 points and 13 boards as Utah got the better of the Knicks on the glass 50-38.

Smith, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Anthony hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to spark an 11-0 run that left New York on top 63-55 with 6:58 left in the third. The Jazz battled back to tie it at 67 on Burks’ 3-pointer but the Knicks scored 12 of the final 14 points of the period to take a 10-point lead into the final period.

Smith buried a 3-pointer on New York’s first possession of the fourth and added a jumper to make it an 84-69 gap. Utah cut it to single digits but never seriously threatened down the stretch.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Knicks F Amar’e Stoudemire (soreness) missed the contest. … Anthony went 11-of-19 from the field and averaged 27.8 points on the five-game trip. … Utah has lost 16 of its last 18 games and owns the fourth-worst record in the NBA.
