Lakers 127, Knicks 96:
Xavier Henry scored 22 points off the bench and Los Angeles set a franchise record with a 51-point third quarter while routing visiting New York.

Fellow reserves Nick Young with 20 points and Kent Bazemore with 18 also stood out for the Lakers, who were 18-of-28 from 3-point range while winning their second straight game. Young was 5-of-6 from behind the arc and Jodie Meeks made four 3-pointers while scoring 14 points as Los Angeles recorded a season best for points scored.

Carmelo Anthony had 29 points and nine rebounds for the Knicks, who fell three games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Recently hired president Phil Jackson watched the game from a suite and witnessed the club’s second straight defeat following an eight-game winning streak.

The Lakers led 50-42 at halftime and then exploded with the record third-quarter splurge by going 19-of-26 from the field, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range. A 12-0 burst early in the quarter increased Los Angeles’ lead to 21 and Henry’s basket late in the stanza made it a 30-point margin.

Los Angeles held a 101-73 lead heading into the fourth quarter and led by as many as 33 points as New York never made a push. The 51-point explosion also marks the most points the Knicks have ever allowed in a quarter.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Los Angeles C Pau Gasol (vertigo) missed the contest and is slated to be examined by a specialist on Wednesday. … G Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 17 points for the Knicks and PF Amar’e Stoudemire added 16. … The Lakers’ possessed an 82-21 edge in bench points while shooting 57.8 percent from the field and falling one shy of matching the franchise record for 3-pointers in a game.
