Knicks 92, Pacers 86: Carmelo Anthony erupted for 34 points as host New York opened the Phil Jackson era by extending its winning streak to a season-high seven games.
Amar'e Stoudemire added 21 points for the Knicks, who had scored more than 107 points in each of their first six victories but used stout defense to prevail over the top team in the East. Raymond Felton had 11 points while Tyson Chandler contributed seven points and 14 rebounds.
Lance Stephenson's 21 points led the Pacers, who remained three games ahead of Miami atop the East after the Heat fell 101-96 in Boston. Roy Hibbert scored 20 points while Paul George added 17 but shot just 4-of-17.
The Knicks saw a double-digit halftime lead whittled down to four on the second of three straight Hibbert baskets with 3:15 remaining in the third. A Pablo Prigioni layup at the buzzer gave New York a 67-62 edge entering the fourth, Iman Shumpert buried a 3-pointer from the right wing after the Pacers had made it a one-possession game and Anthony fended off a final Indiana rally with a driving dunk off a J.R. Smith feed with 3:23 left.
New York took advantage of 14 points apiece from Anthony and Stoudemire to carry a 47-35 advantage into the break. George struggled through what may have been his worst first half of the season, shooting just 1-of-8 while turning the ball over four times.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson, who was named president of basketball operations Tuesday, was given a thunderous ovation by the Madison Square Garden faithful during a first-quarter timeout. Jackson acknowledged the cheers with a wave. ... George is shooting 8-for-31 over his previous two games, including 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. ... New York finished with a 45-40 rebounding advantage but shot just 39 percent from the floor.
