Heat 117, Mavericks 106: LeBron James scored a season-high 42 points and visiting Miami dominated the fourth quarter to knock off Dallas.

James made 16-of-23 shots and also grabbed nine rebounds while recording his 50th career 40-point outing. Chris Bosh added 22 points, Chris Andersen scored a season-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and Dwyane Wade had 13 points as the Heat won for the sixth time in seven games.

Dirk Nowitzki had 22 points, nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the Mavericks. Vince Carter added 15 points as Dallas lost for just the second time in eight games.

The Mavericks had a 95-92 lead after Carter’s four-point play with 7:47 remaining before James scored 10 points, including eight straight points on two 3-pointers and a fast-break dunk, during a 14-0 burst that saw the Heat take a 106-95 lead. Dallas ended a drought of 6:12 without a field goal on Samuel Dalembert’s putback with 1:35 remaining but Miami rattled off the next six points to push the lead to 14 with 51.5 seconds to go.

James had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting as Miami took a 60-54 lead at halftime. The Mavericks used a 13-3 surge to move ahead by six midway through the third quarter before settling for an 85-84 edge entering the final stanza.

GAME NOTEBOOK: James averaged 40.5 points in the two outings against the Mavericks this season as his previous season high of 39 also came against Dallas. … The Mavericks collected 21 offensive rebounds while posting a dominating 50-28 advantage on the boards. … Miami shot 57.1 percent from the field and held a 56-34 edge in points in the paint.
